Ruth Aguilar-Urrea was born in Mexicali, Mexico and raised in a U.S. border town just 2 hours east of San Diego. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy and Spanish at San Diego State University. While working on her undergraduate degree, she trained as an EMT and worked as an Emergency Department technician for several years at Palomar Medical Center. She also co-founded the organization, Flying Samaritans of SDSU, where she organized free medical clinics for underserved patients in Tijuana, Mexico.

Following her undergraduate studies, Ruth moved to the Dominican Republic to train emergency medical responders first hand, while helping implement an emergency dispatch system with Trek Medics International. Upon returning to the United States Ruth attended Stanford University, where she completed their Physician Assistant program and earned a Masters in Medical Science.

Prior to joining My Chula Vista Doctors, Ruth worked as an emergency Physician Assistant in San Francisco and has over 4 years of urgent care experience.
